Bus handles

New and improved bus handles are an easily implementable but clever storage solution, usable for the key users of Auckland’s buses - the elderly and students and visually fits Auckland Transports aesthetics.

My role

The initial part of this project was conducted as a group, we visited the bus depot, spoke with stakeholders, consumers, did surveys, role playing journey mapping and observation before splitting off individually to pursue a problem, and come to a solution.

Opportunity

Lack of on-board storage on Auckland's buses

After surveying, interviews and observation we found that the two main issues with Auckland's buses interiors was the lack of on-board way finding information and storage. I decided to pursue on-board storage issues.

Auckland transport must replace bus seats every 10 years, so exploring how we can improve bus seats is a viable option.

Solution

Both seat and handles fit onto existing seat frame, reducing costs

Yellow is highly visible, even for those who are visually impaired

Patterns flow from handles to seats
